On Monday, Oct. 12, the LBJ School of Public Affairs presented the first forum of its 50th anniversary celebration. The prime-time presentation, "In the Arena: Defining a New Destiny," featured some of today's most important thinkers and doers sharing their sense of purpose in the fight for racial justice and equity, and discussing the leadership and vision that can lead us forward.

On Monday, Oct. 5, the LBJ School of Public Affairs presented the first forum of its 50th anniversary celebration. The prime-time presentation, "In the Arena: The LBJ Era… to the Present," featured some of today's most important thinkers and doers discussing how President Johnson's legacy of bold action inspired their work to fight for change on critical issues from racial justice and equality to health care, jobs and poverty.

When the first 20 students were accepted to the newly minted Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs a half-century ago, the dean at the time said he wanted “problem solvers with peripheral vision.”

Fifty years ago this fall, the Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin opened its doors to educate young people to become bold "thinkers and doers." This October, to commemorate President Lyndon Johnson's founding vision and to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the LBJ School will present two virtual LBJ Forums showcasing prominent global leaders who personify LBJ's ideal and inspire the next generation to creatively take on the world’s most important challenges.

LBJ School of Public Affairs marks 50th anniversary with special programs in 2020

In 2020, the Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin will turn 50, marking a half-century since one of the most action-oriented policy presidents in American history declared his intention to educate new generations of young people to become bold "thinkers and doers." During the landmark anniversary year, the LBJ School will present three daylong programs that spotlight contemporary, high-profile voices known for their imaginative and thoughtful leadership in their chosen arenas.
